Mitch Heinemeyer is in his fifth year as an assistant coach for the Lakeland College baseball team, and the third year as the team’s lead assistant coach.
A former Muskie baseball player, Heinemeyer started his college coaching career at Lakeland, spending one season as a coach before going to NAIA school Purdue University North Central (Ind.). Heinemeyer was PNC’s hitting coach in 2009, when the Panthers broke several offensive school records under his tutelage. Heinemeyer returned to Lakeland in 2010 to become the graduate assistant for the Muskies, and in 2012 became the top assistant to current head coach Mike Bachar.
As a player at Lakeland, Heinemeyer set the school’s career mark for doubles with 20, is tied for the school single-season record for walks (29), and ranks in the top five in four other season and career categories. His seven home runs are tied for fifth in a single season, and his 15 career home runs are one short of the school record. Heinemeyer also is third in program history with a .328 career batting average and is tied for third in career doubles with 33.
Heinemeyer graduated from Lakeland in 2007, and he earned a master of arts in counseling from Lakeland in 2010. He is married to the former Connie Thousand, who played basketball at Lakeland is a 2007 graduate of the college. The couple resides in Sheboygan.
