David Simon is in his eighth year as an assistant coach with the Lakeland football team and will coach the team's offensive line this year. He returns to the coaching staff this year after previously coaching the team’s running backs for seven years.

Simon is a Muskie alum and was a four-year starter on the offensive line from 1995-98. Known at the time as Maurice Finley, he was a part of Lakeland’s 1997 team that went 10-0, setting a school record for wins in a season and one of just two Muskie teams in school history to go undefeated. In Simon’s four years, Lakeland finished with a 31-8-1 record, and he had National Football League tryouts with the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears.

Simon, who is known as "Big Moe"Â from his time playing football at Lakeland, graduated from Lakeland with a degree in sociology and a minor in anthropology. After graduation he changed his changed his name to David Ray Simon, Jr., to be named after his stepfather David Ray Simon, Sr., who he attributes his integrity, drive, and success in life.

Simon previously helped out coaching at his high school alma mater, King High School in Detroit, Mich. He also serves as Lakeland’s vice president for campus life, and is the father of two daughters (Ty’erra and Ty’Jah).
