Joey Lehto is in his third year as an assistant coach with the Lakeland football team and this year will again coach the team’s linebackers.
Lehto was a graduate assistant coach with the Muskies the past two years and this year will continue on the staff after receiving his master’s degree in counseling. He will continue on the staff this year while also serving as the hall manager of Lakeland’s Muehlmeier Hall. Lehto coached the team's secondary in his first year before taking over the linebackers last year.
Lehto joined the coaching staff after a four-year career with the Muskies in which he battled injuries but served as a starting fullback for two seasons. Primarily a blocker, he rushed 28 times for 63 yards in his career and scored his first two touchdowns last year in a game Oct. 13 at Maranatha Baptist. He also caught ten passes for 105 yards in 20 career games.
Lehto is a native of Bartlett, Ill., and received his bachelor’s degree from Lakeland in exercise science and sport studies in the spring of 2013.
