Mitchell Shepherd is in his first year as an assistant coach with the Lakeland football team and will coach the team’s linebackers.
Shepherd came to Lakeland after spending the 2018 season coaching at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, an NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision school. Shepherd was a graduate assistant on the defensive line for the Golden Lions, a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Before beginning his coaching career, Shepherd had a terrific career at NCAA Division III University of Redlands (Calif.). As a linebacker he was named the Southern California Interscholastic Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Defensive Player of the Year as a junior. He finished his career as a four-time all-SCIAC selection, including three times named to the first team. Shepherd also was a D3football.com all-West Region pick and a team captain. He also was a Dean’s List student and a member of Pi Sigma Alpha and the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society.
Shepherd is a native of Seattle, Wash., and a graduate of Roosevelt High School. He received his degree from Redlands in public policy with an emphasis on domestic policy and communications.
