He was a member of an NACC co-champion team in 2014, with current Lakeland offensive coordinator Eric Treske a part of the coaching staff at WLC that year, and also was a two-time recipient of the NACC Scholar-Athlete Award.

Schroeder is a native of Oconomowoc and played in high school for the powerful Hartland Arrowhead program, where he was a member of a 2012 WIAA Division 1 state championship team.
