Tyler Wellman is in his third year with the Lakeland College football coaching staff after joining the program in Feb. 2013 as an assistant coach.
Wellman will again serve as the Muskies' offensive coordinator, and also coordinates the team's offensive line running game. He came to Lakeland from Alma College in Alma, Mich., where he was an assistant coach for five seasons.
In his first two years at Lakeland, Wellman has overseen offenses that have helped the Muskies finish in the top two in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference two straight years. Lakeland finished second in the NACC in rushing offense in 2013, and a total of 14 players have received all-conference mention over the past two years.
Wellman coached the offensive line in his final season at Alma and for four of his five years coaching with the Scots. He coached the line from 2008-10 as well before sliding over to coach wide receivers in 2011.
Wellman is an alumnus of Alma, where he was a four-year starter on the offensive line for the Scots at center, guard and tackle. He made 41 consecutive starts in his career and was a captain of the 2007 squad. Wellman was a member of the Scots' 2004 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship team and earned Second Team All-MIAA honors in 2007 after being recognized as an MIAA honorable mention offensive lineman in 2006.
Wellman is a 2008 graduate of Alma with a bachelor of arts degree in history. He is currently working on his master's degree in sport administration from Central Michigan University. Tyler is married to Ashley (Matuzak) Wellman, who also is a 2008 graduate of Alma and is now the head women's basketball coach at Lawrence University in Appleton.
