Recruiting Regions: Appleton, Lower Peninsula of Michigan, Texas, and the Mid-Atlantic
Tyler Wellman is in his fifth year with the Lakeland football coaching staff and his fourth year as an offensive coordinator.

Wellman will team with Eric Treske to share offensive coordinator duties for the third straight year. In their first two years as co-coordinators, the Muskies have won a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference championships and made two consecutive trips to the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Lakeland also boasted the NACC Offensive Player of the Year (Michael Whitley) as well as the school’s all-time receiving leader (Kezlow Smith) both years, and in 2016 the team led the conference in rushing touchdowns and yards per passing completion and attempt in a 7-4 season. The year before, the Muskies paced the NACC in scoring, passing yards, passing touchdowns and first downs on their way to an 8-3 overall record and an undefeated conference mark.

Wellman also coaches the team’s offensive line, a position he first took over after joining the program in Feb. 2013 as an assistant coach. In his three years at Lakeland, Wellman has overseen offenses that have helped the Muskies finish in the top two in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference each of the last years.

Wellman came to Lakeland from Alma College in Alma, Mich., where he was an assistant coach for five seasons. He coached the offensive line in his final season at Alma and for four of his five years coaching with the Scots, also handling the linemen from 2008-10 as well before sliding over to coach wide receivers in 2011.

Wellman is an alumnus of Alma, where he was a four-year starter on the offensive line for the Scots at center, guard and tackle. He made 41 consecutive starts in his career and was a captain of the 2007 squad. Wellman was a member of the Scots' 2004 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship team and earned Second Team All-MIAA honors in 2007 after being recognized as an MIAA honorable mention offensive lineman in 2006.

Wellman is a 2008 graduate of Alma with a bachelor’s degree in history. He is currently working on his master's degree in sport administration from Central Michigan University. Tyler is married to Ashley (Matuzak) Wellman, who also is a 2008 graduate of Alma and is now the head women's basketball coach at Lawrence University in Appleton, and in Nov. 2015 the couple welcomed their first son, Jack.
