Tyler Wellman is in his first year with the Lakeland College football coaching staff, joining the program in Feb. 2013 as an assistant coach.
Wellman will serve as the Muskies' offensive line coach, and also will coordinate the team's running game. He comes to Lakeland from Alma College in Alma, Mich., where he was an assistant coach the past five seasons.
Wellman coached the offensive line this past season at Alma and for four of his five years coaching with the Scots. He coached the line from 2008-10 as well before sliding over to coach wide receivers in 2011.
Wellman is an alumnus of Alma, where he was a four-year starter on the offensive line for the Scots at center, guard and tackle. He made 41 consecutive starts in his career and was a captain of the 2007 squad. Wellman was a member of the Scots' 2004 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship team and earned Second Team All-MIAA honors in 2007 after being recognized as an MIAA honorable mention offensive lineman in 2006.
Wellman is a 2008 graduate of Alma with a bachelor of arts degree in history. He is currently working on his master's degree in sport administration from Central Michigan University. Tyler is married to Ashley (Matuzak) Wellman, who also is a 2008 graduate of Alma and is now the head women's basketball coach at Lawrence University in Appleton.
