Marcus Wiegert is in his second year as an assistant on the Lakeland men’s basketball coaching staff.
Wiegert has 11 years of college coaching experience and came to the Muskies after time at UW-Superior, Carroll University and most recently eight years at Marian University. As an assistant coach at Marian, Wiegert was responsible for many of the day-to-day tasks within the program as well as being heavily involved in recruiting. He was part of a team in 2013-14 that won the NACC regular season and tournament championships, qualified for the NCAA Tournament and came one point away from knocking off No. 1-ranked UW-Stevens Point. In his eight years at Marian he assisted with the development of 16 All-NACC selections.
In addition to helping with the men’s basketball program, Wiegert was also the head coach of the women’s and men’s tennis programs for four years, and also worked in the undergraduate admissions office and information technology department at Marian. He guided the Sabre women’s tennis team from a one-win season in 2014-15 to an 11-9 mark in 2016-17. The program reached the NACC Tournament semifinals for three straight years from 2016-18. He recruited four All-NACC selections and the 2017 NACC Freshman of the Year.
Wiegert played basketball at Marian and is a 2008 graduate of the school with a degree in sport and recreation management and a minor in information technology. In August of 2015, he earned his master's degree in Sports Management from Lasell College.
Wiegert is currently the Director of Business & Community Development with the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders baseball team of the Northwoods League. His role includes working with corporate sponsorships, ticket sales and group outings.
Wiegert is a native of Deerbrook, Wis, and a graduate of Antigo High School. He and his wife, Nicole, currently reside in Fond du Lac.
