Biography

2019-20: Played in 25 games, starting 14, and averaged 25.5 minutes per game… Had a breakout year, averaging 10.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 steals per game and posting totals of 255 points, 76 rebounds, 34 assists and 26 steals… Shot a team-leading 56.0% from the field (93 of 166), including 50.0% from beyond the arc (37 of 74) plus 82.1% from the free throw line (32 of 39) and was named second team all-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference… Led NACC in three-point percentage and finished fourth in conference in field goal percentage… Also led team field goal percentage and finished second in free throw percentage and three-pointers made, third in points per game, field goals made and steals and fifth in assists… Scored career-high 24 points at Rockford Feb. 18 and added seven rebounds… Recorded career highs with four assists and four steals Feb. 4 at Concordia (Ill.)… Scored in double-figures in 14 of 25 games, including the Muskies’ last 11 when he averaged 16.8 points per game and shot 68.8%… Recipient of NACC Scholar-Athlete Award.

2018-19: Came off the bench in 20 games as a sophomore, averaging 11.0 minutes per game… Averaged 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds per game, finishing with season totals of 57 points, 33 rebounds, 14 assists and three steals… Shot 39.7% from the field (23 of 58), including 7 of 27 from three-point range (25.9%) plus 4-for-7 from the free throw line… Posted then career-high nine points against MSOE on Dec. 22, hitting 3 of 5 from the field including a three-pointers plus 2 of 3 from the line… Scored seven points in a game on three other occasions… Pulled down career-best five rebounds on three occasions, first at Edgewood Jan. 9… Recipient of NACC Scholar-Athlete Award.

2017-18: Came off the bench in 25 games as a freshman, averaging 10.9 minutes per game… Averaged 2.9 points and 1.4 rebounds per game, finishing with season totals of 72 points, 34 rebounds, nine assists, eight steals and two blocked shots… Shot 36.0% from the field (27 of 75), including 14 of 48 from three-point range (29.2%) plus 4-for-5 from the free throw line… Posted season high of eight points in season opener against Finlandia on Nov. 15 and tied it Jan. 23 against Dominican… Pulled down season-best four rebounds Dec. 2 against MSOE… Recipient of NACC Scholar-Athlete Award.

High School: Four-year, three-sport letter winner in basketball, baseball and track & field and also lettered one year in cross country… Three-time all-Eastern Wisconsin Conference selection in basketball, where he also was a two-time team captain and finished third in school history in scoring… Three-time team captain and three-time first team all-conference performer in baseball, where he was also named second team all-state… Member of three WIAA regional championship teams and as a senior was part of team that made it to Kiel’s first state tourney since 1969… Two-time captain on the track team, where he was a six-time conference champion, a three-time sectional champion and in 2016 was part of a state championship relay team in the 1600-meter relay… Named school’s outstanding male student-athlete as a senior… Member of National Honor Society and named Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter Stellar Student.
 
Personal: Born July 31, 1998… Son of Cory & Vanessa Nickel and Josh & Mesha Abler and has four brothers (Ethan, Owen, Griffin and Keegan) and two sisters (Charley and Kendall)… Father Cory scored 1,498 career points and also finished with 366 assists and 191 steals, ranking among the school's all-time leaders in all three categories while playing at Lakeland from 2000-04... Trenton is also a member of the track & field team at Lakeland... Majoring in accounting and business administration.
