Rommy Herrera is in his first year as an assistant coach with the Lakeland men’s soccer team.
Herrera joins the Muskies after having considerable success coaching at the high school level the past eight years. He was the head boys coach at nearby Plymouth High School from 2011-18, where his teams won six conference championships and advanced to the WIAA State Tournament in 2017. He also was the head girls’ junior varsity coach at Plymouth for six years, and also continues to teach Spanish at the school. Before coming to Plymouth, Herrera was an assistant coach for one year at West Allis Central High School in West Allis, Wis.
Herrera also has been a head girls soccer coach with Wisconsin International Soccer since 2015, coaching U14 and U16 girls teams from clubs to participate in the Donosti Cup international tournament. His 2016 U14 Donosti Cup team advanced to the championship final in San Sebastian, Spain, finishing second. He also has been a coordinator and board member of the Plymouth Youth Soccer Association since 2017, developing curriculum for U6, U8 and U10 programs.
Herrera holds a national ‘E’ coaching license from the United States Soccer Federation and is a member of the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association and United Soccer Coaches. He received bachelor’s degrees in industrial arts and secondary Spanish education from the University of Science and Art in Costa Rica, and he obtained his masters in curriculum and instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
