Former Lakeland men’s volleyball great Joe Julkowski has returned to the school and is an assistant with the team in 2016.
Julkowski is one of the most decorated players in the school’s men’s volleyball history and also was a coach for the program for two years, including serving as head coach in 2012. He played five years for the Muskies from 2006-10 when Lakeland competed as a club program and won numerous awards while also playing on some of the greatest teams in the program’s history. Julkowski was a four-time all-Wisconsin Volleyball Conference performer, a two-time WVC MVP and a three-time national All-American. He also was a member of the Muskies’ 2008 national championship team, the 2007 and 2010 national finalists and the 2009 national semifinalists.
After his playing career, Julkowski was a graduate assistant with the Muskies in 2011 and then coached the team in 2012. He led Lakeland to a WVC Tournament championship that year and a trip to the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation national championships. He then served as an assistant coach at the NCAA Division I women’s volleyball level for three years, including two years in 2012-14 at Northern Illinois University and one year at Northwestern University.
Julkowski was inducted into the WVC Hall of Fame in 2014 and recently was named to the league’s silver anniversary team, which recognized the top players from the league’s first 25 years.
