Tyra Hopson

Tyra Hopson is in her first year as an assistant coach with the Lakeland women’s basketball team in 2022-23.

Hopson also is in her second year on the Lakeland athletics staff as a graduate assistant in the Athletic Department. She also was an assistant coach with the Lakeland women's bowling team last year, with duties including recruiting, operations and administrative tasks including travel planning and promoting the program on campus.

Hopson was a competitive bowler from first grade all the way through high school. In her senior year her team won The National Bowling Association (TNBA) Central Region Junior Tournament and became the first team from her the Hillside Bowl alley in Hillside, Ill., to advance to the TNBA national championships in Las Vegas, where they finished in third place overall.

Hopson also was an assistant with the girls basketball program at Sheboygan Christian High School last year, serving as head junior varsity coach and an assistant with the varsity team. She is a native of Bellwood, Ill., graduated from Timothy Christian School in Elmhurst, Ill., and is a 2021 graduate of Valparaiso University, where she received her degree in sport management with a minor in business administration. She is in Lakeland’s Master of Science in Leadership and Organizational Development program with a concentration in sport leadership.
