Pete Barth is in his third full year and fourth year overall coaching the Lakeland women’s tennis team.
The Muskies made a move in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference in 2022-23, finishing sixth in the conference to qualify for the NACC Tournament. A freshman-heavy team posted a 5-9 overall record, including a 5-6 record in the fall. Freshman Olivia Heling also was named the NACC Freshman of the Year, the first ever from Lakeland to receive that award from the conference.
The Muskies posted a 2-11 record in Barth’s first full season in 2021-22. Lakeland posted both of its wins over Alverno by a 6-3 score, the first in the team’s second dual of the season and the second in its final match in the spring in April.
Barth joined Rick Mobley in serving as co-head coaches in the 2021 spring season, after the regular fall women’s tennis season was postponed to the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The two coached Lakeland to a 2-6 record, with the Muskies recording convincing conference wins over Alverno and Dominican.
Barth added to coaching duties at Lakeland that also include coaching the Muskies’ men’s and women’s cross country and track & field teams. He enters 2023-24 in his seventh year coaching those programs, where he has overseen improvement in roster numbers and fielding full teams in many NACC Championship events for the first time since Lakeland joined the conference in 2006.
Before taking over head coaching duties at Lakeland, Barth was previously an assistant with the Lakeland women's soccer team in the 2016 season. He also has experience coaching with select-level girls soccer in the Sheboygan area, including coaching an eighth-grade team of which the core played on the United States' youth level team in the Donosti Cup international competition in Spain. A cross country and track & field athlete in high school, he also has competed in half-marathons, triathlons and other competitive races.
