Lakeland: Cates is in her first year with the Muskies and is a transfer from the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, Mo.

UHSP: As a freshman played in 26 matches and a total of 67 sets for the NAIA member Eutectics… Finished with 32 kills and 36 errors in 167 attacks (-.024 hitting percentage)… Added 101 digs, 16 service aces, five blocks (one solo, four assisted) and four assists.

High School: Four-year three-sport letter winner in volleyball, basketball and softball… Three-time all-Trailways Conference selection in volleyball, including a two-time first team pick as a junior and senior… Also a two-time team MVP… Three-time all-conference pick in softball including first team as a senior, when she also was team MVP… Received team’s Golden Glove award as a junior… Captain on both volleyball and softball teams… Two-time all-conference performer in basketball including second team as a senior… WIAA Sportsmanship Leader Summit participant… WBCA Academic All-State Team member.

Personal: Daughter of Jeff & Jacquie Cates and has two sisters (Hannah and Finley)… Majoring in sport management and leadership.


Career ambition/goal: Work in the NBA

Greatest sports accomplishment: Lettering all four years of high school for all three sports and being a varsity starter as well for all four years for each sport
When not playing sports you will find me: Hanging at the lake with my friends
Why did you choose Lakeland? I loved the atmosphere and how everything flowed nicely together. I also really enjoyed the coaching staff for women’s volleyball
Something people may not know about you: I showed steer and pigs at the Wisconsin State Fair and Walworth County Fair, winning grand champion barrow at the Walworth County Fair
