Jenna Berens is in her second full year as a graduate assistant coach with the Lakeland women’s volleyball team.
Berens joined the Muskies program in March 2022, three months after graduating from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich., where she was a four-year member of the school’s NAIA women’s volleyball program. As a defensive specialist for the Saints she appeared in 61 career matches, including 31 matches as a senior when she finished with 63 digs and ranked third on the team with 31 service aces. Berens also was a team captain, Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference all-academic honors and was named to the conference’s Champions of Character Team, as the Saint who best represented the NAIA’s five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership. She was part of a conference championship team as a freshman and played on two teams that advanced to the NAIA National Tournament.
Berens is a native of Zeeland, Mich., and a graduate of Zeeland East High School. She graduated from Aquinas in Dec. 2021 with a degree in child life specialists-psychology with a concentration in counseling, and after graduation was a substitute teacher in Jenison, Mich., and head coach of a 16-year old girls team with the Michigan Volleyball Academy until coming to Lakeland. She is pursuing her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at Lakeland.
