Katie Britton returns for her third year as an assistant coach on the Lakeland College women’s volleyball coaching staff. She served as a graduate assistant the past two years and now continues with the program under new coach Ryan Schopf.
Britton came to Lakeland from Valparaiso University, where she was a three-year starter as an outside hitter for the NCAA Division I Crusaders. Britton led Valpo in kills per set in both her junior and senior seasons, ranking among the Horizon League leaders both years as well. She finished her four-year career with 893 kills as well as 114 blocks, and was a member of four consecutive 20-win teams.
Britton also was named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll, and at Valparaiso she also played with and was coached by former Lakeland head coach Kim Bukowski, who was a teammate during Britton's freshman year and an assistant coach for the Crusaders during Britton's senior season.
Britton is a native of Mishawaka, Ind., and a graduate of Marian High School, where she was a two-time all-state selection and led the Knights to the Class 3A state championship match as a junior and senior. She received her degree in psychology from Valparaiso in May 2012 and her master's degree in counseling from Lakeland, and she currently works as Lakeland's Alumni Engagement Officer.
