Jake Jurney is in his third year as an assistant coach with the Lakeland men’s volleyball team and also begins his first season as an assistant with the Muskies women’s volleyball team in 2025-26.
Jurney was elevated to a full-time role with Muskies Athletics in the summer of 2025. His new role is split between the men’s and women’s volleyball programs, moving up after being a part-time assistant with the Lakeland men’s program the previous two years while he was also teaching full-time and coaching the girls volleyball team at nearby Plymouth High School.
Jurney came to the Muskies with four years of experience coaching at the high school and club levels, and also played in high school for Lakeland head coach Brian Rushmer. Jurney also played four years collegiately at Lakeland’s Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference rival Marian, appearing in 74 matches in his career and posting 361 kills, 324 digs, 64 service aces and 60 blocks over four years. Jurney’s career highlights included being named an honorable mention all-NACC selection as a junior.
Jurney is a native of Germantown, Wis., and a graduate of Germantown High School, where he participated in volleyball, basketball and golf. He also played club volleyball with Rushmer among his coaches for Milwaukee Volleyball Club. He completed his degree from Marian in secondary education and was a social studies teacher at Plymouth High School for the past two years after his graduation from Marian.
