Soccer teams to host tough Aurora sides Saturday

The Lakeland College men's and women's soccer teams will both face stout competition on Saturday when they host Aurora (Ill.) University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon on the Muskie soccer field.

The Lakeland women (2-7 overall, 0-1 NACC) come in off a 7-0 loss to Concordia Wisconsin on Wednesday, and now the Muskies will face the eight-time defending conference regular season champions. Aurora (6-3 overall, 2-0 NACC) is coming off a 7-0 win over Concordia Chicago on Wednesday, and the Spartans face the leading scorer in NCAA Division III in Nicci Bermudes, who has scored 17 goals and has hat tricks in each of her last three matches, including four goals on Wednesday against Concordia.

The men's match will feature two teams that expect to be in the chase for spots in the six-team NACC Tournament and thus are urgent to avoid a second conference loss early in the league slate. Aurora (5-2-2 overall, 0-1 NACC) finished third in the conference last year but is coming off a tough 4-3 loss to Concordia Chicago on Tuesday, a match in which the Cougars rallied from a 3-1 deficit to win. Lakeland (3-4-1 overall, 1-1 NACC) is looking to get into the conference tournament after finishing eighth in the league last year, but the Muskies most recently were defeated 3-1 by Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday.

The women's match will kick off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, with the men's match scheduled to follow at 3:30 p.m.
