Brandon Hagenow (
Jr.-Sussex, Wis.) and
Jacob Servais (
So.-Coon Valley, Wis.) both posted career-high scoring totals to carry the Lakeland College men's basketball team offensively in a 73-68 comeback win at Dominican (Ill.) University Saturday afternoon.
Hagenow finished with 20 points off the bench and Servais added 15 as the Muskies rallied from an 11-point first half deficit in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game. Lakeland swept the season series from Dominican and improved to 11-3 overall and 7-2 in the NACC.
The Muskies trailed 20-9 just eight minutes into the game and still trailed by 10 when Kevin Mack's three-pointer for the Stars made it 35-25 with 1:51 left in the first half. Lakeland crawled within 35-29 at halftime and then took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Hagenow with 14:30 left in the game, part of a 19-4 run in which the Muskies turned a 41-37 deficit into a 56-45 lead.
Lakeland led the rest of the way, eventually going ahead by as many as 12. Dominican (1-14 overall, 1-9 NACC) made one last effort, closing within three points twice in the final minute, but a basket inside by
Travis Kell (
So.-Madison, Wis.) and two free throws from Hagenow iced the game.
Servais scored 11 of his 15 points in the first half, converting 7 of 10 foul shots along the way. Hagenow came on in the second half to score 17 of his 20, and for the game the junior guard finished 7 of 11 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range.
The Muskies shot 49.0% as a team, hitting 24 of 49 field goals including 8 of 17 three-point tries. Kell also added 12 points, and the trio of Hagenow, Servais and Kell was a combined 16 of 24 from the floor.
Josh Mayberry scored 21 points to lead Dominican, which shot 42.1% (24 of 57) and won the rebounding battle 33-29.
The Muskies are on the road again Tuesday when they travel to Madison to face Edgewood College at 7 p.m.
