So.-Norway, Mich.) topped her career high again with 26 points,
Rachel Stankevich (
Fr.-Goodman, Wis.) grabbed 16 rebounds as part of a double-double and the Lakeland College women's basketball team got back on track with a 58-51 win over Aurora (Ill.) University Saturday afternoon.
The Muskies led for all but a few brief moments in the first half in grabbing their third win in four games. Lakeland improved to 5-11 overall and tied the Spartans for eighth place in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference standings at 5-7 in league play.
Grayvold provided much of the offensive punch, making 6 of 13 shots from the field, including three three-pointers, and also hitting 11 of 14 from the free throw line. The Muskie guard topped the 20-point mark for the fourth time this year and set her career high for the third time, scoring one more than her previous high on Jan. 6 against Rockford.
Stankevich was a tornado on the boards, grabbing a career-best 16 rebounds, including 13 in the first half. The freshman also added 13 points and four steals.
The Muskies put together an outstanding defensive effort as a team, limiting Aurora (5-12 overall) to 29.3% shooting (17 of 58). Lakeland also held Shannon Koski, the NACC's second-leading scorer, to 15 points on 6 of 26 shooting.
The Muskies trailed by five in the game's early stages before taking a 16-13 lead on a three-pointer by
Gaby Cappaert (
Jr.-Stephenson, Mich.) with 11:17 left in the first half. Lakeland would never trail again, taking a 32-24 halftime lead and maintaining a comfortable margin throughout the second half.
Cappaert and
Kayla Clark (
So.-West Bend, Wis.) both added seven points each and Clark led the Muskies with four assists and added three steals. The Muskies shot 32.1% (17 of 53) but got to the free throw line 30 times, making 20 (66.7%).
Lakeland takes to the road on Tuesday to face Wisconsin Lutheran College at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee.
