Mimi Pulido (So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) scored her 13th goal of the season as the Lakeland College women's soccer team attempted a late rally but came up shy in a 2-1 loss to Marian University Wednesday afternoon.

Pulido scored for the Muskies with 1:24 remaining in regulation, taking two dribbles and firing from 15 yards out after a pass from Taryn Allen (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis.) on the right side. Lakeland made one final push in the final 30 seconds but was unable to get off a shot and dropped to 4-12 overall and 1-5 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

The Sabres (5-10 overall, 2-5 NACC) won with a pair of goals that included bad bounces for Lakeland. That included their second goal with just 3:34 remaining in the match after Marcela Herrera lifted a shot at goalkeeper Jessica Carter (Sr.-Schaumburg, Ill.) which Carter saved but was unable to catch, and the ball bounced away just long enough for Jaime Anderson to knock it in the goal.

Marian's first goal came midway through the first half. Alyssa Lennon crossed a pass in front of the goal that Karissa Preston crouched down to head out of mid-air, and she redirected it right through Carter's legs to make it 1-0.

The Sabres carried play most of the match, outshooting the Muskies 19-8, including an 8-3 lead in shots on goal. Besides the goal, Lakeland's best chance came in the 41st minute when Pulido uncorked a shot from about 25 yards out that clanked off the crossbar.

Marian also had a pair of chances to increase its lead in the second half. Anderson had an open goal in the 55th minute but Tiffany Fischer (So.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) was able to sweep her shot away before it reached the line, and Reina Dionisio's shot hit the post in the 65th minute.

Pulido had five of the eight shot attempts for the Muskies. Carter made six saves in goal, while Marian goalkeeper Alysha Kallas made two saves to earn the win.

Lakeland returns to the field Saturday when it travels to face Edgewood College at 1:30 p.m.
