Six different players scored goals for Milwaukee School of Engineering as the Lakeland College women's soccer team was defeated 7-0 Wednesday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game.
The Raiders scored three goals in the first half and four in the second half to clinch a spot in the NACC Tournament and improve to 10-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play. The Muskies dropped to 4-14 overall and 1-7 in the NACC.
Lakeland's chances were limited as MSOE won the shots category 33-6. The Muskies' best chance in the first half came after a corner kick by
Mimi Pulido (
So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) got through traffic and to the left side of the goal to
Maddy Schone-Knoll (
So.-Roscoe, Ill.), but her shot under pressure went just wide of the goal.
Pulido had three chances in the second half, including a free kick in the 65
th that came in with heat and had to be saved by MSOE goalkeeper Haley Anderson. She also had another shot that Anderson saved as time wound down in the 89th minute.
Pulido had four of Lakeland's six shot attempts, while Schone-Knoll and
Tiffany Fischer (
So.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) added single shot attempts.
Kelly Jens (
Sr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) also saved a goal against the Muskies in the 57th minute by sweeping away a shot by Carley Mitus just before the goal line.
Melissa Noll (
Sr.-Green Bay, Wis.) played in goal and made 10 saves for Lakeland.
Sara Travia scored two goals for MSOE, while Natalie Gayner had a goal and an assist and Ally Brehm had two assists.
Lakeland plays its final home match of the season on Saturday when the Muskies host Aurora (Ill.) University. Game time is 3:30 p.m., and it will also be Senior Day for the team's five seniors.
