Aurora (Ill.) University scored three goals in the first half as the Lakeland College women's soccer team came up short on Senior Day in a 5-0 loss Saturday afternoon.
The Muskies received some terrific goalkeeper work at times but lost their final home match of the season, dropping to 4-15 overall and 1-8 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Aurora wrapped up a spot in the NACC Tournament and improved to 9-7 overall and 6-3 in league play.
The match was the final at home for five Lakeland seniors:
Jessica Carter (
Schaumburg, Ill.),
Libby DeClark (
Kingsford, Mich.),
Kelly Jens (
Sheboygan Falls, Wis.),
Melissa Noll (
Green Bay, Wis.) and
Kelsey Raasch (
Clintonville, Wis.).
The Muskies finished with just two shot attempts, both from
Mimi Pulido (
So.-Sheboygan, Wis.). The Spartans controlled play much of the way and attempted 22 shots, with 16 on goal.
Hannah Scahill scored twice for Aurora and three others scored one goal each. Goalkeepers Carter and Noll both made their share of saves, though, with Carter stopping five shots and Noll adding six saves, many at point-blank range.
Lakeland wraps up its season Wednesday when it travels to face Concordia University Wisconsin at 3:30 p.m. in Mequon.
