ROCKFORD, Ill. –
Taryn Allen (
Fr.-Green Bay, Wis.) scored what turned out to be the winning goal as the Lakeland College women's soccer team earned a 2-1 road win over Rockford (Ill.) University Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match.
Allen scored her fifth goal of the season at 66:29 of the match, answering a Regents goal less than seven minutes earlier and putting the Muskies on the way to improving to 4-8 overall this season. Lakeland's fourth win of the season surpasses its win total for all of last year with eight regular season matches remaining.
The Muskies led 1-0 just 10:54 into the match when
Karen Hjelle (
Jr.-Malone, Wis.) scored her second goal of the season. The score remained that way until halftime and into the second half, when Rockford (2-9) received the tying goal from Jessica Bergmann at 59:40.
Lakeland controlled possession for the majority of the day, outshooting the Regents 31-9, including a 17-3 bulge in shots on goal.
Mimi Pulido (
So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) attempted 11 shots, Allen fired 10 times and
Stephanie Figueroa (
Fr.-Round Lake Park, Ill.) added three shot attempts.
Melissa Noll (
Sr.-Green Bay, Wis.) went the distance in goal for the Muskies and made two saves for her third win of the season.
Lakeland is home again Thursday for another non-conference game when it welcomes Maranatha Baptist University for a 4 p.m. match.
