Muskies look to return favor in NACC Tournament one year later against Aurora

The Lakeland College women's volleyball team will attempt to avenge a loss to Aurora University a year ago in the quarterfinals of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament when it hosts the Spartans Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies enter this year's tourney with the No. 4 seed, one spot ahead of Aurora's No. 5 seed, which gives Lakeland homecourt advantage in the quarterfinals. The two teams met last year in the tourney at Aurora, and the Spartans rebounded from a 2-0 deficit to outlast the Muskies in five sets, ending Lakeland's season.

The Muskies hold a 10-5 lead in the series and won the first meeting this year just 11 days ago, defeating the Spartans 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23. Courtney Naser finished with 13 kills, Brittini Scoles tallied 12 kills and Caleigh Galvan had 25 digs as Lakeland withstood 20 kills by Peyton McKenzie.

The Muskies (16-14 overall) wrapped up their regular season on Saturday with a come-from-behind five-set win over Lawrence University on Halloween
night. The Vikings won the first two sets before Lakeland rallied for a 22-25, 16-25, 25-13, 25-9, 15-13 win. Naser racked up 14 kills with Kathy Flanagan and LeShay Jones adding 12 each, Galvan totaled 28 digs, Taylor Levitt dished out 44 assists and Allison Errthum finished with 10 kills plus a career-high 25 digs. The Muskies won their seventh straight match, their longest win streak since 2008, and their 16th win clinched a winning overall record for the season.

The Spartans (13-17 overall) finished the regular season on Friday with a pair of losses in the Benedictine Invitational. Aurora was defeated in three sets by
14th-ranked Elmhurst (Ill.) and then lost a tough five-set match to North Central (Ill.). McKenzie finished with 13 kills and Alexis Hammond added 11 while Emily
Lines had 40 assists as the Spartans won the first two sets in the second match but lost the final three and the match, 23-25, 20-25, 25-15, 25-10, 15-8.
