Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Concordia pulls away in second half to down Muskies

The Lakeland College women's basketball team struggled offensively, shooting 27.7% from the field in a 70-44 loss to Concordia University Wisconsin Tuesday night in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game.

The Muskies maintained contact most of the game until the Falcons finished on a 34-17 run over the final 11:34. Concordia remained undefeated at 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, while Lakeland dropped to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

The Muskies made 18 of 65 field goals, including 2 of 18 from three-point range, both season-low marks. Defense kept Lakeland in the game most of the way, as they trailed just 36-27 late in the third quarter before the Falcons scored the final five points of the period and then scored 11 of the first 15 points to start the fourth quarter.

The Muskies blocked eight Concordia shots, including five by Maddy Doll (So.-Florence, Wis.), and also forced the Falcons into an uncharacteristic 17 turnovers. The visitors also were shooting just 35.0% themselves through three quarters before heating up in the final quarter, hitting 10 of their final 15 shots.

Rachel Stankevich (So.-Goodman, Wis.) led Lakeland with 16 points, the only player in double figures. Kayla Clark (Jr.-West Bend, Wis.) added eight points and committed just one turnover while playing 34 minutes at the point. Doll was held scoreless but added eight rebounds.

Elkhart Lake native Madelyn Landgraf led Concordia with 19 points. Brianna Wagner added 16 rebounds. The Falcons finished shooting 43.6% (24 of 55) and outrebounded the Muskies 47-39.

Lakeland is home again Saturday when it welcomes Alverno College at 2 p.m. at the Woltzen Gymnasium.
