Alec Redlich (
Sr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) and
Tim Robbins (
So.-Wheaton, Ill.) combined for 19 kills to lead the Lakeland College men's volleyball team to a three-set sweep of Benedictine (Ill.) University Saturday afternoon.
The Muskies played for the first time in a week and won 25-18, 25-15, 25-14, improving to 7-4 overall this season and 2-1 in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League. The match was the first meeting ever between the two schools in Benedictine's first varsity season.
Lakeland trailed only briefly in each of the three sets and hit a solid .284 for the match with 37 kills and 14 errors in 81 attack attempts. The Muskies also had 7.5 blocks, which contributed to the Eagles' -.022 hitting percentage with 23 kills and 25 errors in 93 attempts.
Redlich led Lakeland in kills, while Robbins was nearly perfect on the attack with his nine kills coming with just one error in 11 attempts for a .727 attack percentage.
Jordan Smith (
Sr.-Channahon, Ill.) 29 assists and two service aces, while
Cole Aiazzi (
Sr.-Yerington, Nev.) led the defense with 12 digs. Robbins and
Matt Stolz (
So.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) had three blocks each.
Eric Tarnow led Benedictine with eight kills. The Eagles are 2-7 overall and 0-3 in the MCVL in their debut season.
Lakeland is home for a big match Monday night when it hosts No. 14-ranked Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7 p.m. at the Woltzen Gymnasium. MSOE won the teams' first meeting this season in five sets, a match that was also both teams' season opener.
