Delisi drives in five as Muskies defeat Mount Ida, split two more in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – Freshman right fielder Calie Delisi (Oak Forest, Ill.) went 3-for-3 at the plate with five runs batted in to lead the Lakeland College softball team to a convincing 12-1 win over Mount Ida (Mass.) College in five innings on Thursday at the PFX Spring Games.

The Muskies hammered out 15 hits to win the first of two games on the day. Lakeland was defeated by Wheaton (Ill.) College 8-2 in its second game, dropping the team to 4-4 on its spring break trip and 5-7 overall for the season.

First baseman Mikayla Hilton (So.-Saukville, Wis.) added two hits in two at-bats, took a walk, scored three times and drove in a run as well in the first game.
Lakeland rapped out seven runs on six hits in the top of the first inning to grab an early advantage. The first three batters in the Lakeland lineup singled, loading the bases, before three straight walks sandwiched around a triple-steal, drove in three runs.

Delisi then knocked in a pair of runs with a bases-loaded single from the seventh spot in the lineup. She drove in another run with a single to left field in the top of the second, Lakeland's only run in that frame, and then singled up the middle to plate two Muskies as part of a four-run third inning for Lakeland.

Ashley Hough (Sr.-Rapid River, Mich.) and Sami Jo Williams (So.-Sussex, Wis.) each singled twice in the first inning alone, and each drove in a run with a single through the left side on their second at-bat, after scoring their first time up, Hough on a walk, and Williams on a steal of home plate.

Five straight two-out singles by the heart of the Lakeland lineup added to the lead in the third inning, with an RBI single by Jessica Beaudry (Gladstone, Mich.) setting the table for Delisi's two-run base knock.

Beaudry had two runs batted in in the game, after taking a bases-loaded walk herself in the first inning. Third baseman Rosa Gonzalez (Fr.-Elwood, Ill.) also had two hits in the game and scored twice.

Freshman Brooke Paige (Harbor Springs, Mich.) earned the win, tossing three shutout innings and allowing three hits and two walks with one strikeout. Senior Elizabeth Zimmerman (Shawano, Wis.) threw two innings of relief in which she allowed one run on five hits without a walk. Zimmerman struck out one batter.

The game against Wheaton was a pitchers' duel for five innings before the Thunder scored six times in the final two frames. Wheaton (5-3 overall) led 2-0 entering the sixth but scored three times each in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Muskies scored their lone two runs in the bottom of the sixth when Angela Trubuzio (Fr.-Huntley, Ill.) hit a two-run homer.

Lakeland wraps up its spring trip with games against Monmouth (Ill.) College and Thiel (Pa.) College on Friday.
