MILWAUKEE – Three days after knocking off the third-ranked team in NCAA Division III, the Lakeland College men's volleyball team was unable to take out another one, as it was defeated by the State University of New York-New Paltz in three sets Tuesday night in a non-conference match hosted by Milwaukee School of Engineering.
The Hawks came visiting from eastern New York and swept the match 25-19, 25-21, 25-23. New Paltz improved to 16-3 this season, while Lakeland dropped to 12-14 overall.
The Muskies played their 14th match this season against a team ranked in the AVCA/NCAA Division III Top 15 Coaches' Poll. New Paltz moved into the third spot in the latest poll released Tuesday, replacing the Kean (N.J.) University team that the Muskies and MSOE both defeated in four sets on Saturday.
Lakeland hit just .139 for the match with 31 kills and 20 errors in 79 attack attempts. SUNY New Paltz was much better with a .288 attack percentage with 39 kills and 16 errors in 80 attempts.
Tim Robbins (
So.-Wheaton, Ill.) and
Alec Redlich (
Sr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) both led the Muskies with eight kills each, with Robbins putting his kills away in just 10 attempts with one attack error for a .700 hitting percentage.
Matt Stolz (
Jr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) added seven kills and
Casey Bolda (
So.-Honolulu, Hawaii) added six kills in 10 attempts.
Jordan Smith (
Sr.-Channahon, Ill.) recorded 26 assists and
Cole Aiazzi (
Sr.-Yerington, Nev.) led the team with seven digs.
Lakeland returns to action Saturday when it travels to face Loras (Iowa) College for a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League match at 7 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
