Muskies take another shot at No. 8-ranked Carthage tonight

The Lakeland College men's volleyball team will try again for its first-ever win over Carthage College when it hosts the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball Conference rival Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

Carthage has been a staple in the AVCA/NCAA Division III Top 15 Coaches Poll since Lakeland moved its program to the varsity level last year, and the Red Men come into tonight's match ranked eighth nationally. The Muskies are 0-3 against Carthage all-time, including a five-set loss earlier this season in Kenosha.

Lakeland enters the night with a 13-14 overall record and is 6-4 in the MCVL. The Muskies are coming off a five-set comeback win over Loras College Saturday night, the team's first five-set win in six tries this year. Alec Redlich (Sr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) had 15 kills, Tim Robbins (So.-Wheaton, Ill.) added 12 and Kyle Krogstad (Jr.-Chicago, Ill.) also finished with nine kills, including five in the deciding fifth set. The Muskies are in a fight with Dominican and Milwaukee School of Engineering for a spot in the upcoming MCVL Tournament, which will take the top four teams in the final regular season standings.

Carthage enters with an 18-6 overall record and is undefeated in MCVL play at 11-0. The Red Men were in Buffalo, N.Y. this past weekend, where they played four matches and went 4-0 against competition from New York. Most notably, Carthage defeated ninth-ranked NYU in four sets on Sunday, posting a 25-20, 25-12, 23-25, 25-18 win over the Violets.
