APPLETON – Lawrence University's Michael Deremo scored a pair of goals in the first 17 minutes of the game and the Lakeland College men's soccer team was competitive again but came up short in a 2-0 loss Tuesday night at the Banta Bowl.
The Muskies went scoreless for the third straight match and lost a narrow decision for the second straight game. Lakeland played the Vikings evenly in the field but dropped to 1-5 overall this season.
Deremo got Lawrence (1-3-1) on the board 6:27 into the match by converting a penalty kick. His second goal came just over 10 minutes later when John Tsingas and Dominic Pasquesi both assisted.
The Muskies battled to a 10-10 draw in the match in shot attempts, including a 5-2 advantage in the second half. Lakeland also posted a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Lawrence goalkeeper Joe Krivit had to make five saves for the shutout, including three in the final 45 minutes.
Mirko Tadic (
Sr.-Santiago, Chile) unloaded a pair of shots at Krivit and
Nick Thompson (
Sr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) also added an attempt early in the second half.
Franco Herrera (
Sr.-Naucalpan, Mexico) led the Muskies for the match with four shot attempts, while
Matt Moglia (
Fr.-Schaumburg, Ill.) joined Tadic with two attempts.
Logan Massey (
Sr.-New Franken, Wis.) played all 90 minutes in goal for Lakeland and made two saves.
The Muskies are back on the field Saturday when they host Rockford (Ill.) University at 1 p.m. in their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener.
