Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Raiders rally in final minute to tip Muskies men’s cagers, too

MILWAUKEE – Collin Seubert scored on a layup with 9.6 seconds remaining and Milwaukee School of Engineering sent the Lakeland College men's basketball team to a tough 74-72 loss Thursday night at the Kern Center in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game.

Seubert gave MSOE the lead for the first time in the game as the Raiders rallied after trailing by as many as 16 points and being down by six points with less than a minute to play. Lakeland led for 37:47 of the 40 minutes played but lost for the second time in three days and is now 9-6 overall and 5-5 in the NACC.

It was the second straight night at the Kern Center where a Lakeland team held a lead late before MSOE succeeded with a last-ditch rally. The Muskies women's basketball team also led the Raiders in the final minute before MSOE emerged with a three-point win.

The Muskies took the lead in the game's early stages and built a 16-point lead in the first half when Joshuan McNeal (So.-Chicago, Ill.) scored to make it 28-12 with 7:17 left in the half. Lakeland still held a 34-24 halftime lead and pushed the lead to 13 on two occasions in the second half.

The Raiders started to chip away, but the Muskies pushed the lead back up to 58-51 on a jumper by Pat McDonald (Fr.-Port Washington, Wis.) with 8:53 left and then back again to eight points after MSOE (8-6 overall, 5-4 NACC) had sliced it to one with seven minutes left. Lakeland still led by six after Travis Kell (Jr.-Madison, Wis.) scored inside to make it 72-66 with 1:08 left, but those would be the last points the team scored.

The Muskies committed three turnovers in the final minute and missed the front end of two one-and-one opportunities. The Raiders got within one on a three-pointer by Seubert with 35 seconds left and took the lead when Seubert scored and was fouled with just under 10 seconds left.

Lakeland had an opportunity in the final seconds to win it after Seubert missed the free throw but turned it over with a second left. Austin Stueck hit one of two free throws for the final margin.

Tanner Hackl (Sr.-West De Pere, Wis.) finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season. Brandon James (So.-Rockford, Ill.) scored 17 and McNeal added 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench. The Muskies shot 43.1% (28 of 65) for the game and out-rebounded MSOE 45-41.

Connor Patterson led the Raiders with 14 points while Austin Stueck added 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. MSOE shot 42.0% (29 of 69), including 55.9% in the second half when it made 19 of 34 shots.

The Muskies are right back at it Thursday when they travel to face Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7 p.m.
