Box Score 2 The Lakeland College men's volleyball team started off its season in fine fashion with a pair of three-set sweeps at its first home triangular of the season Friday night at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies defeated Illinois Institute of Technology 25-16, 25-15, 25-14 in the first match of the evening and then handled Loras (Iowa) College 25-19, 25-20, 25-20 in the final match. Loras defeated Illinois Tech 25-19, 25-10, 26-24 in the middle match of the triangular.
Matt Stolz (
Jr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) led Lakeland with 16 kills over two matches, including 13 against Loras, and hit at a .433 rate with just three errors in 30 attack attempts. As a team, the Muskies were consistent over both matches, hitting .243 against IIT and .237 against Loras.
Lakeland also finished with a combined 12 blocks plus 12 service aces over the two matches.
Kyle Krogstad (
Sr.-Chicago, Ill.) led the defense up front, while
Casey Bolda (
Jr.-Honolulu, Hawaii) also notched eight aces, including five in the opener against Illinois Tech, a first-year program playing the first match in the program's history.
Krogstad and Bolda both added 12 kills on the night with
Tim Robbins (
Jr.-Wheaton, Ill.) also finishing with 11 kills. Freshman setter
Addison Mertler (
Boca Raton, Fla.) led the team with 48 assists and 13 digs, while Krogstad and
Christian Frahm (
Jr.-Palatine, Ill.) had 10 digs each.
Robbins paced the team with six kills against Illinois Tech, with Krogstad, Bolda and
Tali Coleman (
Fr.-Kapolei, Hawaii) all adding four kills each. Mertler, Frahm and
Andrew Cecere (
Jr.-Fremont, Calif.) all posted a team-high five digs each.
Lakeland next will face Cardinal Stritch University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee.
