THOUSAND OAKS, Calif –
Matt Stolz (
Jr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) tallied 17 kills and the Lakeland College men's volleyball team concluded its trip out west with a four-set win over host school Cal Lutheran University at Posada Royale Invitational.
The Muskies defeated the Kingsmen 21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 in their third match of the two-day event and their second on Saturday. Earlier in the day, Lakeland was defeated New York University 25-20, 25-23, 25-18, falling to the team ranked No. 9 in the AVCA NCAA Division III Top 15 Coaches Poll.
Stolz finished with 17 kills in 34 attempts against Cal Lutheran while
Kyle Krogstad (
Sr.-Chicago, Ill.) added 14 kills.
Casey Bolda (
Jr.-Honolulu, Hawaii) added nine kills, and together the trio accounted for 40 of the team's 48 kills in the match.
Addison Mertler (
Fr.-Boca Raton, Fla.) posted 39 assists, while
Christian Frahm (
Jr.-Palatine, Ill.) paced the team with 11 digs and
Tim Robbins (
Jr.-Wheaton, Ill.) pitched in with five kills, three service aces and three solo blocks.
The Muskies were competitive but unable to claim a set against NYU, as the taller Violets finished with 12.5 blocks and hit .364 for the match with 44 kills and just 12 errors in 88 attempts.
Krogstad and Stolz both had nine kills each against NYU while Robbins added six kills and three aces. Mertler finished with 28 assists and Bolda led the team with eight digs.
Lakeland is in action again next weekend at the Loras Invite in Dubuque, Iowa, beginning Friday with a match at 7 p.m. against the host school.
