Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Muskies frigid from field in loss to undefeated Eagles

LISLE, Ill. – The Lakeland College men's basketball team shot 31.5% from the field and couldn't keep undefeated Benedictine (Ill.) University off the glass enough in an 87-62 loss Saturday afternoon at Benedictine's Rice Center.

The Eagles came in ranked third in the latest D3Hoops.com top 25 poll and played up to their ranking, improving to 20-0 this year and moving to 15-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play. Lakeland dropped to 11-9 overall and is now 7-8 in the NACC with five regular season games remaining.

The Muskies made just 23 of 73 shots from the field, making it difficult to stay with the hosts. Their task was compounded by the opponents' formidable size inside, which helped the Eagles to a 61-32 rebounding advantage.

Lakeland trailed by just eight at halftime at 39-31 and was within six early in the second half before the hosts slowly pulled away. The Eagles led by 12 after Pat McDonald (Fr.-Port Washington, Wis.) hit a jumper to make it 61-49 with 7:33 left, but then scored the next six points and never led by less than 16 the rest of the way.

Tanner Hackl (Sr.-West De Pere, Wis.) scored 17 points and added seven rebounds to lead the Muskies but made just 6 of 19 shots from the field. McDonald added 15 points and Brandon James (So.-Rockford, Ill.) added 10 points plus four assists.

Tim Reamer recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds off the bench for Benedictine, which shot 31 of 69 (44.9%), including 51.5% in the first half (17 of 33). The Eagles also shot all 26 of their free throw attempts in the second half, making 20 (76.9%).

Lakeland is on the road again for its next game when it travels to face Edgewood College Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Madison.
