The Lakeland College women's basketball team was again red-hot from long distance on offense and harassing on defense in an easy 81-43 win over Marian University Tuesday night at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies blitzed the Sabres early, opening the game on a 40-9 run on the way to their third consecutive win. Lakeland improved to 5-7 overall and is now over .500 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with a 4-3 league mark.
The Muskies were efficient offensively, hitting 12 of 20 three-pointers in the game, including 8 of 11 in the first half. Lakeland shot well over 50% overall for most of the game before finishing at 47.5% (28 of 59).
Defensively, the Muskies also forced 33 turnovers, including 18 steals. Lakeland scored 36 points off of those turnovers, including 14 in the first quarter when it built a quick 25-6 lead.
Bailey Grayvold (
Jr.-Norway, Mich.) scored 17 points and added four assists and three steals.
Trista Barron (
Sr.-Escanaba, Mich.) added 14 points and hit 4 of 5 from three-point range, her third consecutive game with four triples made.
Miranda Jacobson (
Fr.-Felch, Mich.) added nine points off the bench and
Gaby Cappaert (
Sr.-Stephenson, Mich.) chipped in seven as the Muskies received 30 points from their reserves.
Rachel Stankevich (
So.-Goodman, Wis.) also added seven points, 11 rebounds and six assists, and
Lexie Greenheck (
Sr.-Oostburg, Wis.) scored six points and added a game-high five steals.
Maddy Doll (
So.-Florence, Wis.) also added three blocked shots to raise her total for the season to 41 blocks. She is now tied with Angela Newton (1996-97) for the second-most blocks in a season in school history, and she is 25 from Renee Steinert's single-season mark of 66 set in 2004-05.
Nicole Paulus scored 14 points to lead Marian (4-8 overall, 2-5 NACC), which shot just 28.3% (15 of 53), including 7 of 29 from three-point range (24.1%).
Lakeland is back on the road Saturday when it travels to face Dominican (Ill.) University at 4:15 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
