RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Lakeland College women's basketball team extended its win streak to four games with another dominant performance in an 87-54 victory over Dominican (Ill.) University Saturday on the road at the Igini Sports Forum.
The Muskies topped 80 points for the third straight game and held an opponent below 65 points for the sixth straight game and improved to 6-7 overall and are now 5-3 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Lakeland has also won its last four games by an average of 32.5 points per game.
Opponents are also committing an average of 29.0 turnovers per game over the last four contests, and the Muskies coaxed the Stars (2-11 overall, 1-7 NACC) into 27 giveaways on Saturday. On the other hand, Lakeland took great care of the ball, committing just seven turnovers.
The Muskies showed great balance on offense with nine players scoring at least six points and no player scoring more than 13 points. Lakeland also finished with a 35-4 advantage in bench points.
The Muskies trailed only briefly in the opening minutes before taking over the game early. Lakeland led 21-10 after one quarter, 42-21 at halftime and 70-37 after three quarters, and led by as many as 36.
Bailey Grayvold (
Jr.-Norway, Mich.) scored 13 points,
Trista Barron (
Sr.-Escanaba, Mich.) totaled 11 and
Kayla Clark (
Jr.-West Bend, Wis.) and
Rachel Stankevich (
So.-Goodman, Wis.) added 10 points each. Stankevich also added eight rebounds, while
Maddy Doll (
So.-Florence, Wis.) chipped in eight points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Jessica Beaudry (
Fr.-Gladstone, Mich.) also added eight points, five rebounds and four assists off the bench.
The Muskies shot 40.8%, finishing 31 of 76 from the field, and also made 19 of 23 free throw tries (82.6%).
Jasmyn Hardin led Dominican with 13 points and nine rebounds. The Stars shot 35.6% (21 of 59), finishing with 17 fewer shot attempts due to the difference in turnovers.
Lakeland will attempt to get to the .500 mark for the first time this season when it hosts Milwaukee School of Engineering Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
