Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Muskies soccer teams both fall to Aurora on the road

AURORA, Ill. – The Lakeland University men's and women's soccer teams were both defeated by Aurora (Ill.) University Saturday afternoon in a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matches.

The Muskies women's team fell by a 4-0 count in its match, while the Lakeland men's squad dropped a 7-1 decision to the Spartans. Both teams have one match remaining in their season next week when they take on Concordia University Wisconsin in their season finales.

The Lakeland women's team (2-14-1 overall, 1-8 NACC) continued to fight on while shorthanded at the end of the season. The Muskies again had just 12 field players available and were outshot 32-1 in their match.

Aurora (5-8-2 overall, 4-3-2 NACC) scored an opening goal 8:49 into the match, but Lakeland hung tough after that and nearly got to halftime down a goal. The Spartans scored their second just 2:29 before halftime, though, and added two more goals early in the second half.

Karisa Rowland (Fr.-Peoria, Ariz.) made 13 saves in goal for the Muskies. Rachel Hasko (Fr.-Racine, Wis.) attempted the lone shot for Lakeland, coming with just over a minute left in the match.

The Lakeland men's team entered the day with its eyes on making the NACC Tournament but saw those hopes dashed with the loss. The Muskies (5-12 overall, 3-6 NACC) are four points out of a tie for the sixth and final conference tourney position, meaning the best they can do is finish in a tie for seventh in the league.

Lakeland trailed just 2-1 at halftime of its match after Renan Asato (Sr.-Sao Paolo, Brazil) scored his fifth goal of the season in the 31st minute, but the Spartans (6-8-2 overall, 4-4-1 NACC) scored five times in the second half.

Thomis Mannebach (Jr.-Florence, Wis.) made three saves before giving way to Bradley Stoeckel (Fr.-Sturgeon Bay, Wis.), who made four saves in goal.
