WAUKESHA, Wis. –
Allison Errthum (
Jr.-Joliet, Ill.) posted a career-high 32 digs and the Lakeland University women's volleyball team defeated Carroll University in four sets to finish with a split of two matches in the Carroll Triangular played Tuesday night.
The Muskies rebounded from a first set loss to prevail 17-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-22 in their second match of the night. Earlier, Lakeland lost in three sets by a 25-18, 25-21, 25-23 count to a University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh team ranked 23rd in the nation in the latest AVCA/NCAA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll.
Errthum's career best in digs also was the most by a Muskie this year and the most since current assistant coach
Caleigh Galvan tied her own single-match school record of 38 digs on Oct. 10, 2015 against Concordia University Wisconsin.
It also was one of a number of big individual performances for Lakeland (15-14 overall) against the Pioneers (7-21 overall).
Shannon Bishop (
Fr.-River Grove, Ill.) finished with 16 kills,
Brittini Scoles (
Jr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) added 13 kills and
Madison Schweitzer (
Fr.-Thornton, Ill.) totaled 41 assists, 13 digs and three service aces.
Taylor Levitt (
Sr.-Schaumburg, Ill.) also finished with 15 digs and
Erin Iwanski (
Fr.-St. Francis, Wis.) finished with a team-high four solo blocks.
The Muskies warmed to the task as the match went on against a deep UW-Oshkosh (26-6 overall) team, improving each set and nearly winning the third set to extend the match.
Kathy Flanagan (
Sr.-Midlothian, Ill.) led the attack with seven kills, Errthum paced the team with 14 digs and Schweitzer finished with 14 assists.
Davan Fleming (
Fr.-Cremona, Alberta, Canada) also added 13 assists in two sets at the setter spot.
The Muskies have another non-conference event on Saturday when they host a quadrangular at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium. Lakeland will host Edgewood College, Lawrence University and St. Norbert College with play on two courts, with the Muskies facing St. Norbert and Edgewood taking on Lawrence at 1 p.m., and then Lakeland and Edgewood will trade opponents with the Muskies meeting Lawrence and the Eagles matched against St. Norbert.
