Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hard work in offensive end pays off as Muskies come back to top Cougars

Tyler Norris (Fr.-Roscoe, Ill.) scored his first collegiate goal and the Lakeland University men's soccer team completed a second-half rally for a 2-1 win over Concordia University Chicago Saturday afternoon.

The Muskies received contributions throughout the lineup to come from behind to earn their first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win of the season. Lakeland improved to 3-10 overall and 1-4 in conference play and won for the first time in four one-goal matches this season.

Norris was positioned well in the right place at the right time on the winning goal in the 78th minute. Charles Apostolik (So.-New Castle, Colo.) carried the ball inside the penalty area at the top of the box, attempting to make the turn to shoot. He continued to work and was unable to get off a shot, but eventually pushed the ball past two defenders, and Norris was able to run onto it and deposit it past goalkeeper Roberto Aragon for his first goal of the season.

The Muskies also were rewarded for hard work on their first goal that tied the match 14:34 into the second half. Brian Herrmann (Jr.-Hortonville, Wis.) got to the ball in traffic inside the box and headed a deflection to the left, where Dustin Garbe (Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) was available and punched the ball in for his first goal of the year.

Lakeland played from behind most of the first half after the Cougars opened the scoring. Roberto Avila scored the first goal 17:15 into the match to put Concordia (2-9 overall, 0-5 NACC) ahead 1-0, and the score remained that way into halftime.

Bradley Stoeckel (Fr.-Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) made six saves in goal to earn his first collegiate win in goal. Stoeckel recovered from an early rush by the Cougars to stop the final six shots he faced while also receiving solid defensive work in front of him from a backline including Garrett Jahnke (Jr.-Howards Grove, Wis.), Zac Kline (Sr.-Luxemburg, Wis.), Dylan Lange (So.-Geneva, Ill.) and Josh Mann (Jr.-Washington Island, Wis.).

Garbe and Renan Asato (Sr.-Sao Paolo, Brazil) paced the offense with four shots each. Lakeland finished with a slim 16-15 advantage in shot attempts and both teams put seven shots on goal each.

The Muskies are home again on Wednesday as they continue their five-game homestand with a match against Marian University at 3:30 p.m.
