Lakeland rolls to first NACC win with rout of Edgewood

Lakeland University raced out to a big lead in the first quarter and breezed to a 79-43 win over Edgewood College in its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference women's basketball opener Saturday afternoon at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies shot a solid 46.2% for the game, including better than 50% through the first three quarters, and also held the visiting Eagles to 26.3% shooting while also forcing 29 turnovers. Lakeland won for the second time this season and improved to 2-3, while Edgewood remained winless at 0-4.

The Muskies forced 11 turnovers in the first quarter alone and led 21-3 after 10 minutes of play. Lakeland led 40-13 at halftime, scored 33 points in the third quarter and built the lead and was ahead by as many as 49 points.

Bailey Grayvold (Sr.-Norway, Mich.) led the Muskies with 17 points and added five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Rachel Stankevich (Jr.-Goodman, Wis.) scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds and added three assists, while Tori Lauren (Fr.-Gwinn, Mich.) and Miranda Jacobson (So.-Felch, Mich.) added 11 and 10 points off the bench, respectively.

Jacobson also added seven rebounds, while Asia Danforth (So.-Seymour, Wis.) also contributed four assists. Maddy Doll (Jr.-Florence, Wis.) also added eight points and blocked three shots.

Lakeland finished shooting 30 of 65 from the floor, including 8-for-29 from three-point range. The Muskies held Edgewood to 15 of 57 shooting, though the Eagles did win the rebounding battle 42-39. Aleigha Sigafus led the guests with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Muskies next will take to the road Tuesday to face NACC power and preseason favorite Wisconsin Lutheran College at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee.
