Returning from a three-week break since its last game, the Lakeland University women's basketball team showed no rust at all in a 93-48 win over Rockford (Ill.) University Saturday afternoon at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies were red-hot on both ends from the start and rolled to their fourth Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win, improving to 4-2 in league play. Lakeland also is over .500 for the first time this season with a 6-5 overall mark.
The Muskies shot 70% in the first quarter in building a 34-5 lead after just 10 minutes. Lakeland led 54-17 at halftime and led by as many as 55 points in the second half.
Rachel Stankevich (
Jr.-Goodman, Wis.) scored 23 points, hitting 10 of 13 field goals as the Muskies dominated inside against the smaller Regents, finishing with 56 points scored in the paint.
Bailey Grayvold (
Sr.-Norway, Mich.) also scored 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and added five steals, part of the team's total of 15 steals as
Rockford committed 25 turnovers.
Miranda Jacobson (
So.-Felch, Mich.) also added 17 points and seven rebounds and
Kayla Clark (
Sr.-West Bend, Wis.) finished with a season-high 10 assists.
Lakeland finished the game shooting 52.8% (38 of 72), including 63.9% in the first half (23 of 36). The Muskies also finished with a 51-40 rebounding advantage.
Mallorie Getzelman scored 19 points but was held to 8-for-27 shooting in leading Rockford (4-6 overall, 2-4 NACC). Taylor May added 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Regents shot just 25.4% for the game, hitting 18 of 71 field goals.
The Muskies are back in action Tuesday for their first game of the new year when they travel to face Marian University at 7 p.m. in Fond du Lac.
