Maddy Doll (
So.-Florence, Wis.) set a new Lakeland College women's basketball single-season record for blocks as the Muskies defeated Dominican (Ill.) University 87-44 Saturday afternoon at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
Doll finished with four blocks against the Stars, her ninth game this season rejecting four opponents' shots or more. The final of those four as her 67th of the season, surpassing the school's previous record of 66 set by Renee Steinert in the 2004-05 season.
The milestone was one of a number of highlights for the Muskies, who improved to 11-10 overall and 10-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and, coupled with Alverno College's loss to Concordia University Wisconsin, also inched closer to securing one of the remaining open spots in the six-team NACC Tournament.
Five players scored in double figures led by
Bailey Grayvold (
Jr.-Norway, Mich.), who scored 23 points on 7 of 11 shooting and made four three-pointers.
Trista Barron (
Sr.-Escanaba, Mich.) added 17 points and drained four more threes, while point guard
Kayla Clark (
Jr.-West Bend, Wis.) also scored 14 points and handed out a career-high 12 assists, surpassing 200 assists for her career.
Lakeland got off to a slow start, leading 10-7 after one quarter and 30-21 at halftime before dominating the second half. The Muskies scored 57 points in the second half, hitting eight of their 11 three-pointers and shooting 54.1% overall (20 of 37) over the final 20 minutes.
Doll also added 10 points and eight rebounds while
Rachel Stankevich (
So.-Goodman, Wis.) also finished with 10 points and eight boards. Lakeland shot 41.6% for the game, making 32 of 77 shots.
Dominican (3-18 overall, 2-14 NACC) was led by Allie Tapanes, who scored 17 points and hit a game-high five three-pointers. The Stars shot 30.8% as a team (16 of 52), and the Muskies also outrebounded the guests 52-30.
Lakeland next will host Milwaukee School of Engineering Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in another conference game.
