FOND DU LAC – The Lakeland College men's volleyball team ran into a formidable foe when it was defeated by nationally ranked Stevenson (Md.) University in three sets Monday night in a non-conference match played at Marian University.
The Mustangs-ranked eighth nationally in the AVCA NCAA Division III Top 15 Coaches Poll-defeated the Muskies 25-21, 25-17, 25-17. Stevenson (21-6 overall) ended Lakeland's four-match winning streak and won the third match ever between the two schools.
The Muskies (15-6 overall) struggled on the attack with 29 kills and 20 errors in 97 attempts for a .093 hitting percentage. Stevenson was responsible for a big part of that, finishing with 11 blocks in three sets.
Casey Bolda (
Jr.-Honolulu, Hawaii) led Lakeland with 10 kills and also added six digs.
Matt Stolz (
Jr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) added five kills in one set of work.
Addison Mertler (
Fr.-Boca Raton, Fla.) set the offense with 20 assists, while
Kyle Krogstad (
Sr.-Chicago, Ill.) led the team with seven digs.
Tim Robbins (

Patrick Schuyler led Stevenson with 13 kills. The Mustangs posted 38 kills with just 14 errors for a .279 hitting percentage.
The two teams were meeting for just the third time and the first time since 2014. Lakeland won the first meeting that year but Stevenson won the second in the Continental Volleyball Conference Tournament to end the Muskies' season. Monday's match also was originally scheduled as part of a triangular at Marian, but Lakeland's match against the host Sabres was cancelled.
Lakeland now gets ready to play at home for the first time in a month when it hosts Milwaukee School of Engineering Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium. MSOE is currently ranked 10th nationally in Division III and will mark the Muskies' seventh ranked opponent this season.
