Shannon Bishop (
Fr.-River Grove, Ill.) and
Brittini Scoles (
Jr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) both topped 20 kills on the day and the Lakeland University women's volleyball team won both of its matches at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Invite Saturday.
The Muskies defeated Illinois Institute of Technology 25-22, 25-18, 25-16 in their first match of the day, and then withstood one ugly set to handle Maranatha Baptist University 25-21, 12-25, 25-16, 25-16. Lakeland moved to 5-2 overall on the season.
Bishop finished with 22 kills over the two matches, including 11 kills in each match. She was especially efficient against IIT (3-3 overall) with 11 kills and just two errors in 20 attacks for a .450 hitting percentage. Scoles also added 20 kills for the day, including 11 against Maranatha Baptist (4-3 overall).
Kathy Flanagan (
Sr.-Midlothian, Ill.) added nine kills against Maranatha and also totaled seven blocks (three solo, four assisted).
Madison Schweitzer (
Fr.-Thornton, Ill.) also totaled 35 assists and a team-high 15 digs in that match and finished with 55 assists over the two matches.
Emma Bruder (
So.-Frankfort, Ill.) and
Brianna Johnson (
So.-Altoona, Wis.) led the back row defense, with Bruder totaling 22 digs and Johnson adding 19. Bruder notched 11 digs in both matches and also added four service aces against Illinois Tech, while Johnson was also consistent with nine digs against IIT and 10 against Maranatha Baptist.
Freshman
Natalie Bova (
Chicago, Ill.) also served four aces against Illinois Tech, while
Emilie Schartner (
So.-Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) added six kills and four blocks (two solo, two assisted) against Maranatha.
The Muskies now have a quiet week before traveling to Eau Claire for a tourney hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Lakeland will open on Friday with a rematch at 5 p.m. against 15th-ranked UW-Stevens Point, a team that defeated the Muskies earlier this week.
