MILWAUKEE – The Lakeland University women's soccer concluded a tough weekend at the Alverno College Inferno Cup with a 7-0 loss to powerful Knox (Ill.) College Sunday afternoon.
The Muskies received no breathers playing in the event and lost for the second day in a row to drop to 1-3 overall. This time it was to a Knox team that is now 6-0 on the season and still has not given up a goal, outscoring opponents 29-0.
The Prairie Fire dominated possession, outshooting Lakeland 24-2. Knox also scored five times in the first half, including two goals in the final three minutes before halftime.
The Prairie Fire led the rest of the way after Kayla Brown tallied just 1:17 into the match. Knox added goals at 11:00 and 18:49, but the match really blew open late in the first half when Annie Peterson scored at 42:00 and Courtney Dramm scored on a free kick with just 13 seconds left before halftime to make it 5-0.
Knox also added goals in the second half via a penalty kick and off a corner kick. The Prairie Fire converted on seven of their 15 shots on goal against
Mikenzie Howarth (
Fr.-Peshtigo, Wis.), who made eight saves in goal.
Rachel Hasko (
Fr.-Racine, Wis.) attempted both of Lakeland's shots, with both landing on goal. No other player attempted a shot.
The Muskies are back home Wednesday when they welcome Lawrence University for a non-conference match at 4 p.m.
