Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lakeland unable to pull out win vs. Loras, also falls to Wartburg in Challenge

WAVERLY, Iowa – The weekend ended on a sour note for the Lakeland University women's volleyball team at the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Challenge with a pair of losses to conclude the two-day event.

The Muskies were defeated by Loras (Iowa) College in five sets in their first match on Saturday, suffering a tough 21-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-17, 15-12 loss. Lakeland then lost in three sets to host school Wartburg (Iowa) College 25-18, 25-23, 25-16 to wrap up the tourney with a 1-3 record.

The Muskies (8-8 overall) couldn't close out a 2-1 lead against Loras after winning the first and third sets. The Duhawks controlled the fourth set and then played from behind the entire fifth set after losing the first two points.

Allison Errthum (Jr.-Joliet, Ill.) finished with 13 kills, Courtney Naser (Jr.-Altoona, Wis.) added 12 and Brittini Scoles (Jr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) added 10, and the defense also was busy with Taylor Levitt (Sr.-Schaumburg, Ill.) posting a career-high 28 digs and Emma Bruder (So.-Frankfort, Ill.) adding 25 digs. Madison Schweitzer (Thornton, Ill.) also finished with 45 assists and 16 digs.

Lakeland had a chance to push Wartburg in its final match of the tourney but let one get away in the second set, watching a late six-point lead slip away. The Knights finished that set on a 13-5 run and then closed it out in the final set for the sweep.

Scoles led the Muskies with nine kills, Schweitzer added 18 assists and Davan Fleming (Fr.-Cremona, Alberta, Canada) came off the bench to added nine assists. Levitt and Bruder both finished with nine digs each and Emilie Schartner (So.-Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) also finished with six kills and four blocks (two solo, two assisted).

Errthum was named to the all-tournament team after finishing with 38 kills and 37 digs over four matches.

The Muskies return to NACC play on Tuesday when they travel to face Marian University at 7 p.m. in Fond du Lac.
