Shannon Bishop (
Fr.-River Grove, Ill.) notched 23 kills over her first two collegiate matches as the Lakeland University women's volleyball team split two matches at the Lake Forest College Forester Invitational on Friday.
The Muskies opened their season with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-17 sweep of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference rival Marian University to start the two-day event. Lakeland then lost in four sets to Alma (Mich.) College later in the evening, with the Scots scoring a 25-20, 25-20, 24-26, 25-18 win.
Bishop posted a sterling starting line in her collegiate debut with 12 kills and just one error in 18 attack attempts against Marian. Her .611 hitting percentage paced the Muskies to a .358 attacking percentage for the match with 38 kills as a team and just nine errors in 81 swings.
Allison Errthum (
Jr.-Joliet, Ill.) also added 10 kills and 10 digs while freshman setter
Madison Schweitzer (Thornton, Ill.) finished with 31 assists in her collegiate debut.
Emma Bruder (
So.-Frankfort, Ill.) paced the team with 13 digs.
Bishop and
Brittini Scoles (
Jr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) led the Muskies in hitting in the second match with 11 kills each. Errthum led the team with 15 digs and Schweitzer finished with 37 assists and 11 digs
Lakeland plays two more matches in Lake Forest on Saturday, first facing the University of Dubuque at noon before taking on the host Lake Forest at 2 p.m.
