ROCKFORD, Ill. –
Kayla Clark (
Sr.-West Bend, Wis.) scored 17 points and hit four three-pointers in the first half and the Lakeland University women's basketball completed a regular season sweep of Rockford (Ill.) University with a 78-66 win Saturday afternoon at the Seaver Center.
The Muskies defeated the Regents for the second time in two weeks and ran their win streak to six games in improving to 10-5 overall and 8-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Lakeland remained one game behind conference leading Wisconsin Lutheran College, tied for third place among a group of five teams separated by 1 1/2 games at the top of the standings.
The Muskies outscored Rockford (5-10 overall, 3-7 NACC) 49-21 in a hot-shooting first half. The Muskies hit 52.8% of their shots (19 of 36), including 7 of 12 from three-point range, and closed the half on a 24-6 run.
Clark scored 12 of her 17 points in the first half, hitting four shots from long range. She finished the game making 6 of 8 from the field, including 5 of 6 from three-point range, and also added a game-high six assists.
The Muskies eventually led by as many as 32 points in the second half. The Regents refused to quit and made a run in the final minutes to make the score very respectable, outscoring Lakeland 18-0 over the final 4:21 for the final margin.
Bailey Grayvold (
Sr.-Norway, Mich.) scored 18 points to lead the Muskies in scoring and also added five assists and three steals.
Rachel Stankevich (
Jr.-Goodman, Wis.) also totaled 12 points and nine rebounds and
Maddy Doll (
Jr.-Florence, Wis.) finished with six points, six rebounds and five blocked shots.
Lakeland shot 44.4% for the game (28 of 63) and had its best performance of the season from three-point range, hitting 10 of 18 from deep. The Muskies also posted a 41-28 rebounding advantage that included 18 offensive boards.
Rockford was led by Taylor May with 20 points, while Mallorie Getzelman and Nicole Silvers added 18 points each and Silvers hit six three-pointers. The Regents shot 36.2% (17 of 47) but converted 25 of 30 at the free throw line.
Lakeland returns to the court Wednesday when it travels to Madison to face Edgewood College at 7 p.m.
